About NORTHMAST
NORTHMAST is a Shopify analytics application for ecommerce merchants. It is provided by Satisfy & I B.V. and brings a merchant's own store, cost, inventory, purchasing and advertising data together into one daily operating picture for that merchant's store.
It is built for merchants who run a real stock position and do their own purchasing, and who need to know what a period actually earned before deciding what to reorder. Where an input is missing, NORTHMAST says so on the figure instead of filling the gap with an estimate.
NORTHMAST is preparing for launch on the Shopify App Store. Its plans and prices are final and published; it has not yet completed Shopify's app review, so it cannot be installed from the App Store yet.
Technical integration information
The remainder of this page describes, in the detail required for platform review, how advertising accounts are connected and exactly what the application does and does not do with the data it reads.
Advertising account connections
Merchants can connect their own advertising accounts to NORTHMAST through official OAuth authorization provided by the advertising platform. A connection is always initiated by the merchant, applies only to that merchant's own accounts and can be disconnected by the merchant.
Two platforms are supported: Meta Ads and Google Ads. Both connections are optional and independent of each other, and the application functions without either of them.
How a Google Ads account is connected
A merchant starts the connection from within the application and is sent to Google's own OAuth consent screen, where they sign in with their own Google account and grant access themselves. The application requests one scope, https://www.googleapis.com/auth/adwords, which is the only scope the Google Ads API offers.
After authorization, the application lists the Google Ads accounts that Google reports the merchant has access to, and the merchant selects the one account to report on. Access tokens and refresh tokens are stored encrypted (AES-256-GCM) and never in plain text.
Use of Google Ads data
Google Ads data is used only for read-only reporting inside the application: it is combined with the merchant's Shopify revenue and cost data so that the merchant can see advertising cost, return on ad spend and profit in one view for their own store. The data is not used for any other purpose, is not shared with other merchants and is not sold.
Two read-only queries are made. The first lists the advertising accounts the merchant can select, returning for each account the account ID, name, currency, time zone, status and whether it is a manager or test account; only the details of the account the merchant then selects are kept. The second retrieves campaign reporting for the selected account. That query also returns the campaign status, which is not stored. The data stored from it is limited to:
- daily advertising spend;
- impressions;
- clicks;
- campaign IDs;
- campaign names;
- the calendar date in the advertising account's own time zone.
What the application does not do
The application does not create or modify campaigns, advertisements, ad groups, budgets, bids, keywords, audiences, conversions or account settings. It performs no write operations of any kind on a connected advertising account: it calls only the Google Ads search (reporting) endpoint, and no mutate endpoint anywhere in the application.
No Shopify order data and no data about a merchant's customers is ever sent to Google Ads. The only data the application sends is the reporting query itself, which contains an account identifier and a date range.
A merchant can disconnect Google Ads at any time. Disconnecting asks Google to revoke the token and then deletes the stored tokens, the selected account details and all imported Google Ads cost data for that store.
